Staff Audiologist Elizabeth Domico Earns Doctorate

Advanced Degree Adds to Long List of Impressive Qualifications

Everyday, MOSD's cochlear implant specialist, Dr. Elizabeth Domico can be seen mapping and adjusting implants through the two way mirror in the hall. Something that stands out about her office are all the computers. She has three computers in her office, one for each manufacturer of the surgically implanted devices. Now she has three college degrees, as well.

She received her undergraduate degree in Nutrition, from Virginia Tech, but decided her heart was someplace else. After much introspection into her interests and skills, Elizabeth enrolled at Radford University in Virgina where she received her Masters Degree in Audiology. Here, in Memphis, Elizabeth found her calling. She spent 16 years at the Shea Ear Clinic where she performed her first cochlear implant initial stimulation. In 2000, Elizabeth joined the staff at MOSD.

Although Elizabeth has kept updated with advances in the field, has had several articles published in medical journals and given many presentations on her work in the field, she felt it was important to pursue her Doctorate personally as well as professionally.  December 4, 2011 marked the end of her two years of studying with the Arizona School of Health Sciences, and the next phase of Domico's professional path.

Along with her audiology duties here at MOSD, Elizabeth provides counseling to parents considering cochlear implantation for their child and works closely with implant surgeons around the Mid-South. Her favorite part of working at MOSD is graduation. She says, "Its so gratifying to see the results of everyone's hard work. Although I'm sad to see the children graduate, I'm happy that they have made so much progress." Recently, her favorite moment was when one of the children sang "Happy Birthday" to her and she says, "I could understand every word!"
